Severe Weather Claims Lives in Kaushambi District
Tragic Incidents Due to Lightning Strikes
In recent days, the weather has taken a drastic turn, with strong winds and intermittent rainfall causing significant distress among residents. Lightning has also been striking frequently. Tragically, four individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes in two separate police jurisdictions in Kaushambi district late Thursday night. Authorities have taken possession of the deceased for post-mortem examinations.
Details of the First Incident
According to Sunil Kumar, the officer in charge of the Sarai Akil police station, four children from Jugrajpur village—Satish Kumar (13), Mani (13), Pawan Das, and Deepanjali—were grazing goats when a sudden thunderstorm led to a lightning strike. The children were immediately rushed to a private hospital by their families, where doctors pronounced Satish and Mani dead, while Pawan and Deepanjali were reported to be out of danger after receiving initial treatment.
Second Incident in Tara Ka Pura Village
Another incident occurred in Tara Ka Pura village within the Kaushambi police jurisdiction. Officer Abhishek Singh reported that three children—Govind (15), Roopa Devi (12), and Mohit (10)—were herding buffaloes when lightning struck. Govind died on the spot, while Roopa succumbed to her injuries at the district hospital. Mohit is currently receiving treatment at a private facility.
Previous Fatality Due to Lightning
Earlier, a 40-year-old BJP leader lost his life in the Krishna Nagar area of Mathura during heavy rainfall. The police reported that Balram Singh, the sector in charge of the Krishna Nagar BJP unit, was attempting to clear rainwater from his roof when lightning struck. DSP Bhushan Verma stated that family members heard his screams and found him unconscious on the roof. Despite efforts from relatives and neighbors to revive him, he was later declared dead at a private hospital.
