Patna, Oct 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for various districts in Bihar due to the influence of Cyclone Arnab, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.
A red alert has been raised for Sitamarhi and Madhubani, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall and lightning strikes.
An orange alert is in effect for Darbhanga, Sheohar, East Champaran, and West Champaran, where heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and wind speeds of 40-50 km/h are anticipated.
Several other districts, including Patna, have received yellow alerts, warning residents of rain, thunderstorms, and lightning.
Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant and adhere to local weather advisories.
The Meteorological Centre in Patna has indicated that the effects of this weather system are expected to last until October 31.
Additionally, the IMD forecasts a notable drop in maximum temperatures across various regions of Bihar, with cooler weather expected following the rainfall.
This shift in weather has introduced an early winter chill in parts of the state.
Patna has particularly experienced a significant temperature decrease, accompanied by cloudy conditions and sporadic rain.
The weather department has warned that heavy rainfall may result in waterlogging and hinder normal activities in the affected areas.
Strong winds and lightning present dangers for individuals working outdoors.
Residents are advised to seek shelter in safe, enclosed spaces during thunderstorms.
It is recommended to avoid open fields, refrain from standing under trees, and stay clear of exposed areas during lightning events.
The Meteorological Centre has also encouraged the public to disregard rumors and rely on official weather updates and government advisories for accurate information.
The IMD's latest district-specific warnings suggest that adverse weather conditions may continue in parts of Bihar through Saturday, October 31.
Cyclone Arnab has significantly disrupted daily life in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with coastal regions of Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar also feeling its effects.
