Severe Weather Alerts Issued Across India: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected
Weather Warnings from the Indian Meteorological Department
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide weather alert, predicting widespread thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds in various regions of India over the coming days. The latest bulletin indicates an increase in weather activity in the eastern, central, and northeastern parts of the country, along with warnings for heavy rain, storms, and hail.
Forecast for March 21 to 24
From March 21 to 24, significant rainfall is expected in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, with heavy to very heavy rain forecasted in some areas on March 21. Thunderstorms could reach speeds of up to 80 km/h in parts of West Bengal's Gangetic plains, while Odisha may experience winds of 70 km/h along with potential hail. On March 24, northeastern states like Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to see widespread rain accompanied by strong winds, with heavy rainfall possible in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. Additionally, sporadic rain and strong winds are anticipated in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh in the coming days.
Weather Conditions in Northwestern India
On March 23, light to moderate rain is expected in northwestern India, with snowfall anticipated in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand due to renewed moisture in the atmosphere. Eastern Uttar Pradesh may also experience significant rainfall and winds reaching speeds of 40 km/h. IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava reported that thunderstorms with rain are occurring across India. Rainfall in Delhi yesterday led to a notable drop in maximum temperatures. According to forecasts, intermittent rain is likely to continue this evening, although it is expected to decrease tomorrow.
