Weather Alert from the Indian Meteorological Department

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a significant weather alert for various regions of the country over the next few days. The weather is rapidly changing in states across northeastern, eastern, central, and southern India due to the activation of western disturbances and cyclonic systems.

Heavy Rain and Snow Forecasted

Warnings have been issued regarding the likelihood of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and hail in several states in the coming days. Additionally, snowfall is expected in hilly regions such as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Severe Impact Anticipated in Northeastern and Eastern States

States in the northeastern region, including Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya, are predicted to experience heavy rainfall and strong winds over the next five days. An alert for heavy rain has also been issued for West Bengal and Sikkim until March 24.

In particular, wind speeds in Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha could reach between 70 to 80 km/h, posing a risk to normal life. Residents in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh have been advised to remain vigilant due to the potential for heavy rain and hail.

Orange Alert for Central India

The meteorological department has declared an 'Orange Alert' for certain areas in central and eastern India, indicating the possibility of severe weather conditions. Stormy winds in Vidarbha and parts of Madhya Pradesh may reach speeds of 60-70 km/h.

Meanwhile, southern states like Kerala and Karnataka will continue to experience heat and humidity, although light to moderate rainfall is expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The arrival of a new western disturbance may lead to a drop in temperatures in hilly areas.
