The National Weather Service in Cleveland reported a severe thunderstorm capable of generating a tornado, detected near Fredericktown at 8:59 PM EDT, approximately 9 miles north of Mount Vernon. This storm is moving eastward at a speed of 60 mph, posing a serious threat to the communities in its trajectory.

This storm has the potential to produce tornadoes and quarter-sized hail. Officials have cautioned that flying debris could pose a significant danger to anyone without adequate shelter. Mobile homes are particularly vulnerable to damage or destruction, and there is a risk of significant harm to roofs, windows, and vehicles. Additionally, tree damage is anticipated.

Areas that may be affected include North Liberty, Gann, Waterford, Martinsburg, Butler, Bladensburg, and Apple Valley, among others. Earlier alerts also covered regions such as Marion, Bucyrus, and Galion.

Residents in the warned zones are strongly advised to take immediate safety measures. Authorities recommend relocating to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and staying away from windows. Those who are outdoors, in vehicles, or in mobile homes should seek the nearest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris. Given the rapid movement of the storm, officials emphasize the importance of taking cover promptly, as conditions can change quickly.
