Severe Tornado Hits Union City, Michigan Amid Storms

A tornado has been confirmed near Union City, Michigan, as severe storms continue to impact the region. The National Weather Service has issued warnings, advising residents to seek shelter immediately. The tornado, moving at approximately 35 mph, poses risks of flying debris and damage to structures. Areas such as Homer and Albion may also be affected. Stay safe and informed during this severe weather event.
 

Tornado Strikes Union City, Michigan


On Friday afternoon, a tornado was confirmed near Union City, Michigan, as intense storms swept through the area. This follows previous tornado activity in Edwardsburg and Three Rivers, Michigan. The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids reported that a tornado warning was active for Calhoun County until 5:30 PM EST. At approximately 4:43 PM EST, weather observers confirmed a tornado situated just north of Union City and close to Burlington, moving eastward at around 35 mph.



Officials indicated that the storm could generate a destructive tornado along with quarter-sized hail. They cautioned that flying debris poses a significant risk to individuals outside without adequate shelter, and mobile homes could face severe damage or destruction. There is also a likelihood of damage to roofs, windows, vehicles, and trees.


The tornado was projected to approach Homer, Michigan around 5:00 PM EST and Albion, Michigan at approximately 5:10 PM EST. Other areas that might be affected include Tekonsha and Athens, Michigan. Authorities advised residents to seek immediate shelter in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy structure, away from windows. Those outside, in vehicles, or in mobile homes were urged to find the nearest substantial shelter to protect themselves from flying debris.
