Tornado Warnings Issued in Ohio

A tornado warning is currently active for parts of southwest Ohio following a severe thunderstorm that has the potential to spawn a tornado. This storm was reported near Bethel in Clermont County on Tuesday afternoon. The National Weather Service indicated that at 3:03 PM, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected near Bethel, moving southeast at a speed of 35 mph. Radar imagery showed signs of rotation, leading to the extension of the warning into southeastern Clermont County and southwestern Brown County.

Just moments prior, radar confirmed the presence of a tornado south of Amelia, with debris observed in the atmosphere. An earlier tornado warning that encompassed much of Clermont County is still in effect. Meteorologists emphasized that a tornado warning signifies that a tornado has either been sighted or detected by radar, posing an immediate threat to life and property. Residents in the affected regions are strongly advised to seek shelter without delay.

Communities under the warning include Georgetown, Bethel, Felicity, Hamersville, Higginsport, Point Isabel, Feesburg, and Saltair. The National Weather Service has warned that flying debris can be hazardous for anyone outside. Mobile homes may face damage or destruction, and roofs, windows, and vehicles could also be affected. Significant tree damage is anticipated.

In addition, another tornado warning is in effect until 4:15 PM EDT for southeastern Grant County, east-central Owen County, and southwestern Pendleton County in Kentucky. At 3:37 PM, the National Weather Service reported a confirmed tornado located approximately 5 miles northeast of Owenton, moving southeast at 35 mph. Radar confirmed the tornado's presence, with debris visible in the air.

This warning encompasses areas including Williamstown, Dry Ridge, Morgan, Corinth, Goforth, Stewartsville, Cherry Grove, Williamstown Lake, Keefer, Marcus, Camp Northward, Lawrenceville, and Cordova, as well as a segment of Interstate 75 between mile markers 144 and 159. Officials are urging residents to take immediate cover by relocating to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, avoiding windows, and seeking substantial shelter if outdoors or in a vehicle.
