Severe Storms and Heavy Rain Predicted for Delhi-NCR Ahead of Monsoon
Severe Weather Alert for Delhi-NCR
On Wednesday, northern India is bracing for intense winds and storms, raising concerns about a powerful pre-monsoon storm in the Delhi-NCR region. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued formal warnings for several areas. Cities including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad, along with various towns in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, are directly in the path of this rapidly advancing storm, leading to expectations of dramatic weather changes by evening.
Weather Changes Expected
According to the IMD, a warning issued at 5:15 PM (IST) indicated the likelihood of light to moderate rain, thunder, lightning, and winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour across the entire Delhi-NCR region within hours. The warning suggested that the storm system was moving swiftly towards the area. Shortly thereafter, the weather in Delhi shifted abruptly, with a sudden sandstorm followed by thunder and rain. This unexpected change provided some relief from rising temperatures, although it also disrupted normal conditions.
Impact of the Sandstorm
The sandstorm extended to surrounding areas, including Gurugram and Noida, highlighting the widespread impact of the storm system. The IMD has forecasted additional rainfall in Delhi and the entire NCR over the next three days, indicating a trend of persistent unstable weather in the region.
