Gurugram Faces Disruption Due to Continuous Rain

Since Thursday morning, Gurugram has been experiencing relentless rainfall, leading to significant disruption in daily life. In response, authorities have recommended a two-day 'work from home' policy. Major roads in the city have become inundated, and residential sectors in lower-lying areas are submerged, resulting in severe traffic congestion during peak hours. Between 8 AM on August 5 and 8 AM on August 6, an average of 97 mm of rainfall was recorded in the district. Sohna received the highest rainfall at 110 mm, followed by Gurugram Tehsil at 97 mm, Kadiapur at 74 mm, and Harsaru at 74 mm. Patodi and Farukh Nagar reported 6 mm and 7 mm of rain, respectively.

Weather Alerts and Advisory Issued

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert for the city. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), led by District Magistrate Uttam Singh, has released an advisory urging all corporate offices and private institutions to allow employees to work from home on August 6 and 7. This advisory aims to reduce vehicle congestion on flooded roads and enable civic agencies to promptly repair and restore drainage systems. The city police have also issued a warning, advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel. To manage the increasing water levels, traffic management teams and local police station heads have been deployed at major intersections. ACP Traffic (Headquarters and Highway) Satpal Yadav encouraged the public to utilize public transport, acknowledging the traffic pressure caused by the rain and the Kanwar Yatra diversions.

Traffic Chaos Reported

Heavy traffic jams have been reported at key intersections such as Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Golf Course Extension Road, Old Delhi-Gurugram Road, and the Gurgaon Expressway. Dharm Veer Singh, a resident of Mapsco Casabella in Sector 82, was stuck on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway near Ambience Mall between 7 AM and 9 AM.
