Severe Monsoon Flooding Devastates Northeast India, Thousands Affected

Northeast India is currently facing a crisis as heavy monsoon rains lead to devastating flooding across multiple states. Thousands of tourists are stranded in Sikkim, while Assam reports over 78,000 affected individuals. Impact of Monsoon Rains in Northeast India

In Northeast India, torrential monsoon rains have wreaked havoc, leading to significant loss of life and property across several states. Reports indicate that thousands of tourists are stranded in Sikkim, exacerbating the crisis. In light of this dire situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reached out to the Chief Ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, as well as the Governor of Manipur, to discuss the unfolding circumstances. Shah assured them of the central government's full support in addressing the challenges posed by the heavy rainfall.




The Home Minister emphasized that the Modi government stands firmly with the people of Northeast India. He stated on social media, 'I spoke with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh, along with the Governor of Manipur, regarding the ongoing heavy rains in their states. I assured them of all possible assistance to tackle any situation.'




Due to the intense rainfall, many regions in the Northeast are facing flood-like conditions. In Assam, over 78,000 individuals have been affected across more than 15 districts. Officials reported that the heavy rains over the past few days have disrupted road transport, train services, and ferry operations. Additionally, nine fatalities have been recorded in Arunachal Pradesh due to landslides triggered by the relentless downpour in the last two days.

Officials have reported that landslides caused by continuous rainfall have blocked major roads, leaving approximately 1,500 tourists stranded in various parts of northern Sikkim on Saturday. In Mangan district of Sikkim, a vehicle fell into the Teesta River on Thursday night, resulting in one death, two injuries, and eight individuals reported missing. Manipur has also been severely impacted by heavy rains, with 3,802 people affected and 883 homes damaged due to flooding and landslides in the past 48 hours.
