Severe Monsoon Disrupts Life in Himachal Pradesh: Landslides and Floods Reported
Monsoon's Impact on Himachal Pradesh
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is facing severe challenges as the monsoon season has unleashed heavy rainfall, causing extensive damage throughout the region. Over the last 15 hours, relentless rain has resulted in numerous landslides and flash floods, significantly disrupting daily life.
In Shimla, the state capital, various neighborhoods have experienced landslides that have blocked roads and damaged vehicles. Areas such as Bharari and Panthaghati have seen trees and debris fall onto parked cars, making roads impassable.
Access to Chamyana hospital has been hindered due to a landslide, complicating healthcare access. Additionally, the city's water supply has been compromised as rainwater and silt have contaminated main sources. The Shimla Jal Nigam has cautioned residents that water supply issues may persist for several days, advising them to boil water before use.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in districts including Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Solan, and Sirmaur for Sunday (June 29, 2025). A similar alert is also in effect for Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Bilaspur on Monday. From July 1 to 4, a yellow alert has been announced statewide, indicating ongoing rainfall. There are warnings of potential flooding in parts of Solan, Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur.
The continuous downpour has led to cloudbursts in several districts, such as Kullu, Mandi, and Kangra, causing significant destruction. Reports indicate washed-out roads, flooded homes, and collapsed buildings.
According to official reports, the current monsoon-related incidents have resulted in 34 fatalities, 74 injuries, and property damages exceeding Rs 300 crore.
Authorities are on high alert, with emergency services operating continuously to address the situation. Residents are advised to remain indoors, avoid traveling to hilly regions, and stay informed through official weather updates.
