Severe Heatwave Relief as Rain and Dust Storms Hit Delhi-NCR
Weather Update: Rain and Dust Storms in Delhi-NCR
Residents of Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad are experiencing significant relief from the heatwave as rain and dust storms sweep through the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for these areas, warning of winds reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h in the next hour. This marks another intense pre-monsoon phase, with the IMD predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and light rain to follow.
The weather department has cautioned about strong winds, which have already reduced visibility. After a few days of rising temperatures, this sudden change brings much-needed respite. According to an IMD statement, light rain and thunderstorms are likely to occur in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), which includes parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, with wind speeds expected to range between 50-80 km/h.
In the coming hours, weather changes are anticipated across Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Winds could reach speeds of 50-80 km/h, with squally winds potentially hitting 100 km/h in Delhi-NCR. Meanwhile, the strong winds and rain have caused trees to uproot, damaging several vehicles in the parking area of the Calcutta High Court.
Last week, a slight increase in minimum temperatures was recorded in the capital, with the IMD forecasting light rain and strong winds for the day. The minimum temperature at Safdarjung was noted at 28.7 degrees Celsius, which is 1.7 degrees higher than the previous day and 0.7 degrees above normal.
