Extreme Heat in Delhi
On Saturday, Delhi experienced one of the most intense and uncomfortable days of the summer season. Due to a combination of scorching heat and oppressive humidity, the heat index, or the real-feel temperature, soared to a staggering 51.3 degrees Celsius. The unusually high temperatures made it extremely challenging for residents to venture outside or breathe comfortably in the open air.
Weather Forecast Update
In the midst of this extreme heat, meteorologist Akhil Srivastava from the Indian Meteorological Department provided a significant update for the people of Delhi-NCR. He stated, "The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain around 41 degrees Celsius, similar to yesterday, with heatwave-like conditions persisting in some areas of the city. A similar hot and humid atmosphere will also be observed in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh." However, he offered a glimmer of hope by mentioning that a slight decrease in temperature is anticipated starting tomorrow, which may provide some relief from this deadly heatwave for the residents of Delhi.
Rain Predictions Fail, Humidity Persists
Interestingly, the weather department had predicted thunderstorms and rain for Delhi over the weekend, but the monsoon showers eluded the city. As a result, residents are left grappling with the sticky and humid heat. According to the IMD, the peak wet-bulb temperature recorded in Delhi was 29.77 degrees Celsius, which can be quite exhausting for the human body.
High Humidity Expected in Coming Days
Meteorologists have indicated that throughout Saturday, humidity levels in the air fluctuated between 35% and 63%. Experts suggest that this high level of humidity is likely to persist over the next few days. Although temperatures may drop slightly, the oppressive heat and humidity will continue to trouble residents for a while longer.
