Current Flood Situation in Assam

The flood crisis in Assam remains critical, with the official bulletin from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reporting that the death toll has risen to 98 following another fatality in the Mahamora revenue circle of the Charadeiv district. Recent reports have also indicated fatalities in Golaghat and Udalguri districts.

As per the latest updates, the number of districts affected by the floods has decreased to 13, with approximately 155,000 individuals impacted.

Latest Casualty Figures

In the past 24 hours, ASDMA confirmed one death each in Golaghat and Udalguri districts. The authority noted on social media that flood conditions are affecting parts of Assam, with over 168,000 people impacted across 15 districts. Ongoing relief and rescue operations are in place, with relief camps and distribution centers assisting those in need.

Resumption of Classes in Flood-Affected Areas

The Assam government has announced plans to resume classes in flood-affected districts like Sivasagar and Charadeiv starting August 10. Alternative arrangements are being made for students whose schools are inaccessible or damaged due to the recent floods. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that this decision aims to minimize disruptions in education and ensure students can continue their studies, even as repairs are underway in many affected institutions.

Schools that are not yet ready for students will remain closed until conditions improve, but temporary facilities will be provided for students to continue their education.

Weather Forecast for Assam

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a likelihood of scattered rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh from August 6 to 12, and in Assam and Meghalaya from August 8 to 11. The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya on August 6-7 and August 12, as well as during the period from August 6 to 12 in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

The weather agency also warned of possible thunderstorms and lightning in Arunachal Pradesh on August 6, and in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from August 6 to 10.
