Severe Flooding Hits Golaghat District: Over 68,000 Affected

Golaghat, Aug 9: The flood crisis in the Numaligarh and Morangi regions of Golaghat district has escalated, with numerous rivers exceeding their danger thresholds. The ongoing water discharge from the Doyang Hydro Power Station in Nagaland has heightened concerns.
As of 4 PM on Sunday, the Dhansiri River at Numaligarh was recorded at 79.55 meters, surpassing its danger level of 78.42 meters.
Similarly, the Doyang River at Jamuguri was flowing at 97.05 meters, above its danger mark of 96.91 meters. The Kakodunga River at Duflating was noted at 86.91 meters.
Water discharge from the Doyang Hydro Power Station remains significant. The latest update at 5 PM indicated that the reservoir level was at 322.33 meters, close to the Full Reservoir Level of 324 meters.
Out of the four spillway gates, Gate No. 1 was opened by 1.25 meters, while Gates No. 2, 3, and 4 were each opened by 1 meter, releasing approximately 156 cubic meters of water per second.
The rising river levels and ongoing discharge have intensified worries in the Numaligarh-Morangi area, where floodwaters have breached a key road near the embankment in Kenduguri and Kordoiguri.
This breach has impacted numerous families, with floodwaters inundating residential zones.
According to the official flood report from Golaghat district, 145 villages across six revenue circles are currently affected, impacting around 68,239 individuals and submerging 2,006.51 hectares of farmland.
In the Morangi Revenue Circle, flooding has been reported in 14 villages, affecting 4,804 residents and inundating 323.66 hectares of agricultural land.
The six revenue circles impacted include Golaghat, Bokakhat, Khumtai, Morangi, Sarupathar, and Dergaon.
Tragically, the flood-related death toll in Assam has reached 99, with multiple districts reporting fatalities as the situation remains dire across the state.
As per the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) Assam bulletin released on Saturday, the deceased include 58 males, 23 females, and 18 children, comprising 12 boys and six girls.
