Cold Wave Conditions in Jharkhand

On Friday, a cold wave swept through parts of Jharkhand, with the minimum temperatures falling below 10 degrees Celsius in 13 districts, as reported by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The lowest temperature recorded was 1.5 degrees Celsius in Khunti, followed by Dalton Ganj at 3.2 degrees Celsius and Bokaro at 3.3 degrees Celsius.

Abhishek Anand, the deputy director at the IMD center in Ranchi, stated that northwestern winds are persistently blowing at the atmospheric level over Jharkhand, contributing to the cold wave conditions in several districts.

The districts experiencing temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius include Bokaro, Deoghar, East Singhbhum, Koderma, Hazaribagh, Latehar, Dalton Ganj (Palamu), Lohardaga, Pakur, Ranchi, Saraikela, Simdega, and West Singhbhum.

According to the weather department's bulletin, an orange alert has been issued for the districts of Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Hazaribagh, indicating the possibility of light cold wave conditions. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, and West Singhbhum, where isolated cold wave conditions are anticipated.

The weather department forecasts that these cold wave conditions are likely to persist until 8:30 AM on Saturday. The IMD employs a color-coded system for weather alerts: green (no action needed), yellow (monitor closely), orange (be prepared), and red (action/assistance required).
