Court Delivers Verdict in Drug Case

Dharamshala (Kangra): In a significant ruling, Additional Sessions Judge Jaswant Singh has sentenced Jaswinder Singh, also known as Sedu, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for drug-related offenses under Section 21(B) of the NDPS Act. The court has also imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000, with an additional year of imprisonment if the fine is not paid.

The prosecution's case details that on December 28, 2020, a police patrol in Nurpur observed a man trying to escape upon noticing their presence. Upon apprehension and subsequent search, authorities discovered 6.28 grams of heroin (chitta) in his possession. The seized drugs were properly sealed in accordance with the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of the accused, who was also subjected to a medical examination. The evidence was secured in the police malkhana.

Forensic analysis confirmed the substance as diacetylmorphine (heroin). The investigation adhered to all necessary provisions outlined in Sections 52-A, 55, and 57 of the NDPS Act.

District Public Prosecutor Sanjeev Rana presented a compelling case, including testimonies from 12 witnesses, comprising police personnel, independent witnesses, and scientific experts. After evaluating the evidence and documentation, the court found the defendant guilty and issued the sentence.
