Seven Convicted in Gautam Buddha Nagar for Teen's Murder During Govardhan Puja
Court Sentences Seven to Life Imprisonment
In a significant ruling, a court in Gautam Buddha Nagar has sentenced seven individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of a 14-year-old boy during the Govardhan Puja celebrations. Each convict has also been fined ₹95,000, as confirmed by a government lawyer on Tuesday.
According to Assistant Government Advocate Dharmendra Jayant, the verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge (Second) Somprabha Mishra after hearing arguments from both sides and recording witness testimonies.
The tragic incident occurred on the evening of November 14, 2023, in Mahabalipur village, located within the jurisdiction of the Jewar police station. As per the FIR filed by Rakesh, the father of the victim Mohit, they were returning home after participating in the Govardhan Puja when the accused opened fire on them.
The lawyer reported that Mohit was killed instantly due to gunfire, while two others, Narendra and Harendra, sustained injuries from bullets. Additionally, the assailants attacked with sticks and sharp weapons.
Following a thorough investigation, the police submitted a charge sheet to the court. The court has mandated life sentences for all convicted individuals, and failure to pay the imposed fines will result in an additional six months of imprisonment.
