Security Lapse During PM Modi's Visit

A significant security breach occurred during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Bengaluru. Authorities have taken decisive action following the discovery of gelatin sticks, an explosive material, near the route designated for the Prime Minister's convoy earlier this month. On Sunday, officials announced the immediate suspension of six police officers for negligence in their duties. The Superintendent of Police for Bengaluru South (Ram Nagar) has ordered these officers to remain suspended until a thorough investigation is completed. This incident has raised serious questions regarding the security protocols for VVIPs.

According to police officials, the gelatin sticks were found during routine security checks and searches conducted prior to PM Modi's arrival. The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Central Range) reported that two sticks of gelatin were discovered near a footpath on the outskirts of Bengaluru, approximately three kilometers from the main event site where the Prime Minister was scheduled to appear.

Investigation Underway

The DIG stated, "During the checks before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival, two sticks of gelatin were found by the footpath. This location is about three kilometers away from the main event site where PM Modi was to go. The investigation is ongoing." Authorities have confirmed that the six suspended officers will remain so until the investigation concludes. The police have initiated a detailed inquiry to determine how the explosive materials reached the vicinity of the Prime Minister's convoy and whether there was any deliberate attempt to compromise security.

This action follows the discovery of at least two gelatin sticks near an event site just days before PM Modi's visit on May 10. The incident posed a significant security threat, prompting the police to launch an extensive investigation. The explosive materials were found near an ashram close to Kagalipura, about three kilometers from the main venue where the Prime Minister was scheduled to participate in an event later that day.

Political Reactions

Following the discovery of the explosives, security agencies quickly cordoned off the area and dispatched bomb disposal squads and forensic teams to the scene. The police began a comprehensive investigation to ascertain how the explosives reached that location and whether there was an intentional effort to undermine security. In response to the incident, Karnataka BJP President and MLA BY Vijayendra harshly criticized the state Congress government, labeling the gelatin stick incident as "unforgivable and a serious failure."

On May 10, Vijayendra posted on social media, accusing the Congress government of having completely failed in maintaining law and order in Karnataka. He emphasized that there should be no laxity in ensuring the safety of the country's esteemed Prime Minister, who must be provided with maximum security at all times. He also called for strict action against those responsible for this incident and the negligent officials.
