Security Reduced Outside Abhishek Banerjee's Residence After Political Shift in West Bengal
Political Changes Impact Security Measures
In the wake of shifting political dynamics in West Bengal, Abhishek Banerjee, a prominent leader of the Trinamool Congress, has experienced a significant setback. The security presence outside his residence has been notably reduced. Previously, a substantial police force was stationed outside his home, but following the announcement of the assembly election results, this security has been scaled back. Local residents have expressed their satisfaction with this development, stating that they can now pass through the area more easily.
Local Residents Share Their Views
Speaking to a media outlet, local resident Sourav Banerjee commented on the diminished security outside Abhishek Banerjee's home. He noted that prior to May 4, a large contingent of Bengal police was always present, but that number has decreased significantly. He remarked, "This is Abhishek Banerjee's house, which is quite large. Previously, around 300 to 350 police officers were deployed here for a single MP. Now, the situation is calm, and people can walk freely. We used to face difficulties before."
Community Reactions to Changes
Sourav further elaborated, stating, "While this is Abhishek Banerjee's residence, he has done nothing for us. He used to intimidate us, but now the community is living peacefully. The changes we are witnessing are very positive." A video has surfaced showing security personnel being withdrawn from outside his residence in Shanti Niketan.
Election Commission's Directive
Earlier in the day, the Election Commission issued strict instructions to all officials to prevent violence following the assembly elections. This directive came after the Trinamool Congress office in Asansol was vandalized. According to TMC, unidentified assailants caused significant damage to the office, which they have openly attributed to the BJP.
BJP's Historic Victory in West Bengal
It is noteworthy that the Bharatiya Janata Party has achieved a historic victory in West Bengal, dismantling Mamata Banerjee's 15-year rule. In the 294-seat assembly, the BJP secured 207 seats. Mamata Banerjee not only lost the chief ministerial position but also failed to retain her own seat, suffering defeats in both Nandigram and Bhawanipur at the hands of Suvendu Adhikari.
