The Director General of Police has confirmed that the Central Armed Police Forces will oversee security at counting venues, while the State Armed Police will manage outer perimeter protection. Guwahati, May 3: All necessary security measures have been established for the vote counting scheduled on May 4, with ongoing assessments of the situation.

The Director General of Police, Harmeet Singh, informed that a video conference led by the Chief Secretary was held with senior officials, including Deputy Commissioners and SSPs, to evaluate the security protocols.

According to the DGP, the Central Armed Police Forces are responsible for security at all counting venues, in accordance with established guidelines.

The outer perimeter is secured by the State Armed Police. Although some CAPF units were withdrawn post-polling, sufficient forces remain to ensure the safety of the strong rooms as required.

Counting centers have been adequately secured, and typically, the Force does not enter these centers unless necessary.

The Assam Police do not foresee any issues during or after the counting process. However, the DGP has cautioned that any attempts to disrupt the process will be met with legal action.

With a decline in militancy, the likelihood of disturbances during or after the vote counting is minimal. Nevertheless, police personnel are prepared to address any potential issues.

In related news, the Election Commission of India has ordered the transfer of five District Election Officers (DEOs). IAS officer Dr. P Uday Praveen will now serve as DEO of Kokrajhar, while Srishti Singh takes over in Majuli. Kimnei Changsan has been assigned to Baksa, Madhusudan Nath to Chirang, and Jay Vikash to Udalguri. The transferred officers will not engage in any election-related duties, as per the directive.
