Security Incident at Assam's New Government Swearing-In Ceremony

Security Breach During Assam's Government Ceremony

A man was taken into custody at the venue of Assam's new government swearing-in ceremony after live ammunition was discovered. The incident occurred during a security check at the entrance of the Veterinary College grounds in Khanapara, where Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath as Chief Minister for the second consecutive time. According to police, the individual was detained for questioning and was being transported to the Basista police station. However, no weapons were found in his possession. A police official stated that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the discovery and whether it posed any security threat.


Ceremony Attended by Dignitaries

The incident took place just minutes before the Governor, Laxman Prasad Acharya, administered the oath to the 57-year-old Himanta, in the presence of several new council members. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. Over 40 Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from the NDA were also present at the event. Alongside Himanta, four other legislators, including Rameshwar Teli from the BJP, Atul Bora from the AGP, and Chara Boro from the BPF, also took their oaths as ministers.


NDA Leaders Congratulate New Government

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders extended their heartfelt congratulations to the newly formed BJP-led government in Assam, expressing confidence that the state will reach new heights of development. Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time on Tuesday, marking the NDA's third consecutive term in the state. In addition to Sarma, four other ministers were sworn in as part of the new cabinet, including former Union Minister Rameshwar Teli, AGP President Atul Bora, UPPL leader Chara Boro, and senior BJP leader Ajanta Niyog. The ceremony also saw the presence of leaders and Chief Ministers from 22 NDA-ruled states, including Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
