Major Arms Recovery in Manipur


Imphal, July 26: In a significant operation against illegal weaponry, security personnel successfully confiscated approximately 90 firearms along with over 700 rounds of ammunition and explosives during coordinated actions across five districts in Manipur, as reported by police officials.


Following specific intelligence, simultaneous raids were executed in the districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur by collaborative teams that included the Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, Army, and Assam Rifles.


The extensive recovery comprised 90 weapons, which featured three AK-series rifles, one M16 rifle, five INSAS rifles, one INSAS LMG, four SLRs, 20 pistols, four carbines, seven .303 rifles, and eight additional firearms.


Moreover, the forces seized 728 rounds of ammunition and explosives, which encompassed 21 grenades, six improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 21 magazines, and 24 wireless communication devices.


Reaffirming their commitment to restoring peace in the area, the Manipur Police called upon citizens to assist law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities or information regarding illegal arms to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room.


Senior police officials are maintaining close collaboration with all security partners to ensure that such operations are conducted consistently and effectively, with the goal of reinstating normalcy, preserving public order, and protecting the lives and property of all residents.


Since May 2023, ethnic violence between the Meitei community in the Imphal Valley and the Kuki community in the surrounding hills has resulted in over 260 fatalities and left thousands displaced.
