Security Forces Foil Major Terror Plot in Jammu and Kashmir
Major IED Recovery in South Kashmir
In Jammu and Kashmir, security forces are actively engaged in counter-terrorism operations. On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, vigilant personnel from the 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) discovered and safely neutralized a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 14.3 kilograms along the Jainapura-Chatragam road in South Kashmir, thwarting a significant terrorist plot.
Details of the IED
The IED was equipped with plastic explosives, a primer, an electric detonator, a remote trigger, and batteries. It was strategically placed near fruit orchards along the roadside close to Jainapura. According to sources, the device was likely intended to target security force vehicles operating in the region. During a routine search operation, the RR team spotted the suspicious object and promptly alerted the bomb disposal squad, which safely deactivated the device, preventing a potential disaster.
Thwarted Terrorist Scheme
A military spokesperson praised the alertness of the troops, stating, 'A major conspiracy to disrupt peace in the area by terrorists has been foiled.' This recovery indicates that terrorists are still attempting to disrupt normal life in the valley ahead of the summer tourist season.
Identifying the Perpetrators
In response, the RR, along with Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF, has intensified joint operations to identify those responsible for this failed attack. Search operations are ongoing in the fruit orchards and surrounding villages. This incident is part of a series of recent IED threats in North Kashmir, where security forces have repeatedly thwarted similar terrorist plots through proactive measures.
