Security Forces Engage in Clash with Militants in Arunachal Pradesh

Margherita, Aug 14: In the early hours of Friday, a militant assault on an Assam Rifles camp located in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh sparked a significant firefight between the attackers and security personnel, prompting increased security measures along the Assam-Arunachal border.

The incident occurred around 3:15 AM, targeting the Longvi Company Operating Base (COB) of the 21 Assam Rifles situated in Longvi village. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities among the security forces were reported at the time of this update.

It remains unclear if any militants sustained injuries or were killed during the counterattack.

The gunfire exchange reportedly lasted between 15 to 20 minutes, after which the militants retreated into the nearby dense forests, according to security sources.

Sources indicated that the assault was orchestrated by self-proclaimed Colonel Makam Hachen of the NSCN (K-YA), although this claim has not been independently verified.

A senior official suggested that this attack might have been an effort by the outlawed Naga insurgent group to instigate unrest ahead of Independence Day.

In response to the attack, personnel from the Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police initiated extensive search operations in the surrounding forested areas, cordoning off the site. Efforts to locate the fleeing militants were ongoing at the time of this report.

Security measures were also heightened in Assam's regions adjacent to Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in Margherita, Ledo, Lekhapani, and Jagun within Tinsukia district.

Increased surveillance along critical transit routes and entry points on the inter-state border has been implemented, with naka checking and joint patrols commencing to deter any potential militant movement or infiltration into Assam.
