Security Forces Destroy Over 600 Acres of Illegal Poppy Cultivation in Manipur

In a significant crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, security forces in Manipur have destroyed over 600 acres of poppy fields across Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts. The operations, conducted between December 16 and 20, resulted in the eradication of extensive illegal crops and the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker found with brown sugar. Destruction of Illegal Poppy Fields

In the districts of Ukhrul and Kangpokpi in Manipur, security forces have eradicated illegal poppy crops spanning more than 600 acres, as reported by the police on Sunday.


According to police sources, between December 16 and 20, a total of 559 acres of poppy fields were destroyed in various locations within Ukhrul district, including Yaolon, Lamlai Chingfei, Shongfel, Mullam, Tora, Champhung, Tenem, Phali, and Changta.


Additionally, in a separate operation on Saturday, security forces targeted 42 acres of poppy cultivation in the El Simol, Janganomphai, and SP Naimun areas of Kangpokpi district. This operation has led to the registration of three First Information Reports (FIRs).


Furthermore, a police officer indicated that during routine vehicle checks in Tengnoupal district on Saturday, a suspected drug trafficker was apprehended, with 212 grams of 'brown sugar' seized from their possession.
