Guwahati, Jan 9: Security personnel apprehended four Rohingya individuals, including two women, in Assam's Cachar district on Friday for illegally entering India.

Authorities reported that these individuals were detained in the Katigorah area after it was confirmed they had crossed the international border unlawfully.

During the arrest, police discovered forged documents, such as refugee cards, in their possession.

The four detainees are now in police custody.

Recently, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the government's commitment to intensifying efforts against illegal immigration, asserting that Assam will not serve as a haven for undocumented foreigners.

CM Sarma mentioned that a significant 'push-back' operation was conducted in 2025 to deport illegal Bangladeshi nationals, and this initiative will be pursued with even greater vigor in the upcoming year.

He stated, 'In 2026, we will be relentless in this endeavor and push back even more. Assam is not your breeding ground.'

The Chief Minister has consistently highlighted that illegal immigration threatens Assam's demographic stability, social cohesion, and internal security.

He reaffirmed the government's dedication to protecting the rights of indigenous populations and enforcing laws without leniency.

CM Sarma has previously pointed out that illegal immigration has been a longstanding issue for Assam, especially in border regions, and criticized past administrations for their inadequate responses.
