SC Delhi Triumphs Over NorthEast United FC with 3-0 Victory in ISL
SC Delhi Secures Convincing Win
In a dominant second-half performance, SC Delhi achieved a 3-0 victory against NorthEast United FC during the Indian Super League 2025-26 match held at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday. This win marks SC Delhi's second consecutive triumph of the season, elevating them to eighth place in the league standings with a total of eight points, while NorthEast United FC drops to tenth with six points. Joseph Sunny earned the Player of the Match title for his impressive two-goal performance, as reported by the AIFF Media.
First Half Ends Without Goals
NorthEast United FC's head coach, Juan Pedro Benali, made two adjustments to his lineup, reinstating captain Miguel Zabaco in defense and bringing in Ankith P for the attack. Meanwhile, SC Delhi, led by assistant coach Noel Joseph due to head coach Tomasz Tchorz's suspension, made one change by starting Paraguayan striker Julio Rivas.
The match kicked off with both teams displaying an energetic pace, with NorthEast United applying early pressure. Jithin MS tested goalkeeper Nora Fernandes within the first minute, and Bekey Oram's curling cross nearly caught the keeper off guard, necessitating a quick save. SC Delhi responded with attempts from Mohammed Aimen and Devendra Murgaokar, both trying their luck from long range.
Despite some promising plays from both teams, neither could capitalize in the final third. Jithin consistently threatened down the flanks for the Highlanders, while SC Delhi's defense, led by Alex Saji, remained resolute. The first half concluded in a stalemate, with a crucial defensive play by Dinesh Singh preventing Aimen from crossing, leaving the score at 0-0.
Second Half Sees Sunny Shine
The second half began with increased intensity as both teams sought to attack more aggressively. Jairo Samperio, who was substituted in at halftime, tested Fernandes from distance, while Aimen came close to scoring after a strong run into the box. The breakthrough came in the 65th minute when SC Delhi executed a well-coordinated play. Aimen's keen vision set up Joseph Sunny with a perfectly timed through ball. Sunny maintained his composure, slotting a precise finish into the far corner, giving SC Delhi a 1-0 lead.
Just four minutes later, SC Delhi extended their lead with a moment of individual brilliance. Midfielder Abdul-Halik Hudu initiated the play with a lofted pass, and Sunny timed his run impeccably, controlling the ball past defender Dinesh before lifting a composed finish over the advancing goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh, making it 2-0.
SC Delhi continued to dominate, nearly scoring a third in the 73rd minute when Sunny turned provider, assisting Sourav K, whose powerful shot was saved by Gurmeet.
The third goal came in the 80th minute following a fluid team move. Ousmane Fane surged forward from midfield, combining with Sunny, who then passed to Aimen. The forward displayed great composure, maneuvering past defenders before unleashing a powerful right-footed shot into the top corner, sealing the victory.
NorthEast United pressed for a response in the final moments, with Lalrinzuala Hauhnar forcing a save from Fernandes, but they could not find the net. The match concluded with SC Delhi celebrating a commanding 3-0 victory, marking their resurgence with consecutive wins in the league.
