Saudi Arabia's Strong Response to Iranian Aggression

Riyadh, March 9: On Monday, Saudi Arabia expressed strong condemnation of the Iranian assaults targeting its territory and that of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, which include several Arab and Islamic allies. The Saudi Foreign Ministry emphasized its right to implement all necessary measures to safeguard its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens.

The ministry highlighted that the ongoing Iranian attacks signify a dangerous escalation that could severely affect diplomatic relations.

According to the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the targeting of civilian sites, airports, and oil installations reflects a clear intent to undermine security and stability, while also violating international laws and agreements.

In response to remarks made by the Iranian President, who claimed there were no intentions to assault neighboring nations, Saudi Arabia asserted that Iran's actions contradict this statement. The Kingdom pointed out that the Iranian leadership has continued its aggressive actions based on unfounded allegations, including false claims regarding Saudi military aircraft participating in conflicts, clarifying that these planes are solely engaged in air patrols to secure the airspace of Saudi Arabia and the GCC from Iranian threats.

Saudi Arabia reiterated that the ongoing Iranian hostilities represent a significant escalation with serious consequences for future relations. The Kingdom also noted that Iran's current behavior does not demonstrate wisdom and does not contribute to de-escalation, warning that Iran stands to lose the most in any widening conflict.

This statement follows a tragic incident where two individuals lost their lives and twelve others were injured due to a military projectile hitting a residential area in Al-Kharj Governorate on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence reported that the projectile struck a residential compound associated with a maintenance and cleaning firm, resulting in the deaths of two individuals from India and Bangladesh, along with injuries to twelve Bangladeshi residents and significant property damage.

In a statement on X, the spokesperson condemned the targeting of civilian infrastructure as a "clear violation of international humanitarian law" and confirmed that standard procedures were followed in response to the incident.
