Gandhinagar, Aug 11: Satish Patel, the newly elected MLA from Manjalpur, took his oath of office in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. This event followed his recent victory in the Vadodara constituency by-election, where the BJP successfully maintained its hold on the seat.

The oath was administered by Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also in attendance.

Other notable attendees included Chief Whip Balkrishna Shukla, Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Rushikesh Patel, and several MLAs and members of the state Council of Ministers.

Patel's election came after a bypoll on July 30, necessitated by the passing of long-serving BJP MLA Yogesh Patel in June. The vote counting occurred on August 3.

In the election results, Patel emerged victorious over Congress candidate and former Minister Bhikha Rabari, winning by a significant margin of over 30,000 votes.

Patel garnered 55,481 votes, while Rabari received 24,851, resulting in a victory margin of 30,630 votes. The bypoll saw a voter turnout of approximately 37.5 percent.

His win ensures that the BJP continues to hold the Manjalpur seat, which it has maintained since 2012. Patel's candidacy was notable as he is based in Chhani, not Manjalpur.

A seasoned figure in the cooperative sector, Patel has previously chaired the standing committee of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.

This by-election followed the death of Yogesh Patel, who had represented Manjalpur in the 2012, 2017, and 2022 Assembly elections, and had a remarkable political career spanning 36 years with eight consecutive wins.

After his swearing-in, Satish Patel expressed gratitude, stating, “The voters of Manjalpur Assembly have given me the same support that they had given to Yogesh Kaka. I will take this responsibility forward.”

Post-ceremony, fellow leaders congratulated Patel and extended their best wishes for his term as an MLA.

His induction marks the official transition to the new BJP representative for the constituency following the by-election.
