Historic Achievement for Sanju Samson

On Saturday, Indian cricketer Sanju Samson achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to score centuries for three different teams. He accomplished this feat while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Chepauk Stadium. After struggling in his previous three matches, Samson bounced back impressively, scoring an unbeaten 115 runs off 56 balls, which included 11 fours and four sixes, achieving a strike rate of 205.36.

Milestones Achieved

This century marks Samson's fourth in the IPL, with two previous centuries scored for Rajasthan Royals in the 2019 and 2021 seasons, and one for Delhi Capitals in 2017. Additionally, he reached a significant milestone of 400 sixes in T20 cricket, becoming the fourth Indian to do so, joining the ranks of Rohit Sharma (554), Virat Kohli (441), and Suryakumar Yadav (442). Samson now has a total of 401 sixes in T20 matches.

CSK's Innings Overview

The partnership between Samson and Ayush Mhatre, who scored a half-century, was notable, totaling 113 runs. This partnership is the second-highest for CSK against DC in IPL history, only surpassed by the 141 runs scored by Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad in a previous match in 2023.

Samson's Batting Prowess

Samson showcased his batting skills against both pace and spin bowlers. He scored 84 runs off 39 balls against pace, achieving a strike rate of 215.4, with 11 fours and three sixes. Against spin, he added 31 runs from 17 balls at a strike rate of 182.3, hitting four boundaries and one six.

In the match, DC won the toss and opted to bowl first. CSK's captain Ruturaj Gaikwad managed only 15 runs off 18 balls during a 62-run opening partnership with Samson. However, Samson displayed the same fluidity that earned him the 'Player of the Tournament' title in the recent T20 World Cup. He later formed a significant 113-run partnership with Mhatre, who contributed 59 runs off 36 balls, including three fours and four sixes. A quick cameo from Shivam Dube, who scored 20 runs off 10 balls, helped CSK finish their innings at 212/2 in 20 overs, with Axar Patel from DC taking one wicket for 39 runs.
