Sanjay Bangar Discusses Gujarat Titans' Strategy for IPL 2026
Bangar Discusses GT's Strategic Approach for IPL 2026
As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 approaches, former cricketer Sanjay Bangar has shared insights on how the Gujarat Titans (GT), led by Shubman Gill, can effectively balance their batting and bowling line-up. During a discussion on JioHotstar, Bangar emphasized the importance of retaining key players like Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia, while also assigning all-rounder Washington Sundar a pivotal batting role, likely at the number four position. He stated, "GT has consistently backed their initial selections, keeping faith in players like Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia. Washington Sundar's role is crucial, focusing more on batting in significant situations."
Utilizing Impact Players and Strengthening the Lower Order
Bangar pointed out that either Tewatia or Shahrukh could serve as an impact player in the lower order, enhancing the team's overall batting consistency. He proposed adding Glenn Phillips to the squad to bolster middle-order strength alongside Jos Buttler at the top. "We anticipate Shahrukh Khan will justify the trust placed in him by the GT management. He demonstrated improvement last season, scoring vital runs. If both Tewatia and Shahrukh are in the lineup, one can be utilized as an impact player, which would significantly benefit GT, especially since most runs were generated from the top order last season," Bangar added.
Incorporating Overseas Talent for a Competitive Edge
Bangar also mentioned that Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada are essential overseas bowlers, contributing to a well-rounded GT squad poised for the IPL 2026 championship. "I am inclined to include Glenn Phillips for additional middle-order strength. With Jos Buttler leading the batting, Phillips in the middle, and Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada as key bowlers, this creates a solid mix of international talent," he remarked.
