Sandeep Pathak Faces Legal Trouble After Leaving AAP for BJP
Legal Issues Arise for Sandeep Pathak
Following Sandeep Pathak's departure from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) along with six Rajya Sabha members to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), two First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed against him in Punjab. These FIRs have been registered under non-bailable sections, as reported by sources on Saturday. The allegations include harassment of women and corruption in two districts of Punjab.
Notably, a team from the Punjab police visited Pathak's residence in New Delhi, but he was seen leaving before the officials arrived. Additionally, a team from the Delhi police has also been dispatched to his home, where security measures have been heightened. However, Pathak claims he is unaware of the FIRs and that the police have not reached out to him. He stated that he has always served the country with integrity and loyalty.
Pathak emphasized that the nation is greater than any political party, asserting, "I will never betray it, nor allow anyone else to do so. If actions are taken against someone like me, it only reflects their cowardice. I do not wish to comment further on this matter." Since April 2022, Pathak has been a Rajya Sabha member from Punjab and was considered a key figure in AAP's victory in the state during the 2022 assembly elections. His recent move to the BJP, alongside six other AAP MPs including Raghav Chadha, has dealt a significant blow to Arvind Kejriwal's party ahead of the upcoming assembly elections next year.
In a press conference on April 24, Pathak explained his decision to leave AAP, stating that his primary goal was to serve the country. He mentioned that working under AAP had become increasingly challenging for various reasons, which ultimately led him to join the BJP.
