Samardeep Singh Gill Clinches Gold in Men's Shot Put at National Athletics Championship

In an exciting conclusion to the 29th National Senior Athletics Federation Competition, Samardeep Singh Gill from Madhya Pradesh claimed gold in the men's shot put, surpassing the Commonwealth Games qualification mark. The event also saw impressive performances from other athletes, including Yashas P and Santhosh Kumar T in the men's 400m hurdles, both qualifying for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. Shivam Lohakare from Maharashtra won the men's javelin gold, showcasing the depth of talent at the championship. Final Day Highlights of the 29th National Senior Athletics Federation Competition

On the concluding day of the 29th National Senior Athletics Federation Competition held at Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi, 25-year-old Samardeep Singh Gill from Madhya Pradesh triumphed over seasoned competitor Tajinderpal Singh Toor from Punjab, securing the gold medal in the men's shot put event.


Toor, a two-time Asian Games champion, kicked off his performance with an initial throw measuring 20.07 meters. However, Gill took the lead with a remarkable fourth attempt of 20.46 meters, ultimately earning him the top spot. Despite Toor's efforts to reclaim his position, his final throw registered at 20.06 meters. Gill's performance also surpassed the Glasgow Commonwealth Games qualification mark of 20.36 meters.


In the men's 400m hurdles, Karnataka's Yashas P and Santhosh Kumar T from NCOE Trivandrum secured their spots for the Commonwealth Games. Yashas P clinched gold with a time of 49.00 seconds, closely followed by Santhosh Kumar T at 49.06 seconds.


The men's javelin event saw Shivam Lohakare from Maharashtra take home the gold with a throw of 81.71 meters, just shy of the Commonwealth Games qualification mark of 82.61 meters.
