Sakshi Chaudhary Celebrates Historic Boxing Victory at Commonwealth Games 2026
Historic Achievement for Indian Boxing
Indian boxer Sakshi Chaudhary, who clinched gold at the Commonwealth Games 2026, expressed her joy over India's remarkable boxing performance, which resulted in a record-breaking total of 10 medals, including seven golds, at the event held in Glasgow. In the women's 51kg final, Sakshi showcased her skills by defeating England's Ruby White with a unanimous 5-0 decision.
Boxing Dominance at CWG 2026
India's boxing team made headlines during the Commonwealth Games, achieving a historic milestone by securing 10 medals, seven of which were gold. Alongside Sakshi, other notable boxers such as World Champion Jaismine Lamboria, Preeti Pawar (54kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), and Ankush Panghal (80kg) also earned gold medals. Additionally, Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani Singh, and Narender Berwal contributed silver medals, marking an exceptional campaign for Indian boxing. This achievement sets a new record for the most gold medals won by any country in boxing at a single Commonwealth Games.
Celebration and Future Aspirations
Upon returning to India, Sakshi and her fellow boxers received a warm welcome at IGI Airport in Delhi on August 4. In an interview, she shared her feelings about the gold medal win, stating, "It feels like a dream. This is India's best performance in the Commonwealth Games with 10 medals, including 7 golds. This is historic. We will now focus on preparing for the Asian Games."
Sakshi's Journey and Achievements
This victory caps off an extraordinary year for Sakshi, who moved down a weight class to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and notably defeated two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen during the national trials. Earlier this year, she made history as the first Indian woman to win gold at the World Boxing Cup, defeating Yoseline Perez from the USA in Astana, and also secured gold at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in Czechia. Sakshi is a former World Junior champion and a two-time World Youth champion.
