Indian boxer Sakshi Chaudhary expressed her ambition to 'change the colour of the medal to gold' following her impressive performance in the women's 51kg semifinals at the Commonwealth Games 2026. She secured her spot by defeating Caitlyn Fryers from Northern Ireland with a commanding unanimous decision of 5-0 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Sakshi's Path to the Medal

Sakshi entered the Games in excellent form, having transitioned back to the 51kg category and defeating several top Indian boxers during the trials. Throughout the match, she maintained control, winning all three rounds with a consistent 5-0 score, showcasing her agility and precise punches to keep Fryers under constant pressure.

This victory guarantees Sakshi a medal at the Commonwealth Games. She is set to compete against Canada's Amber-Jane Wall in the semifinals on Friday, aiming for a place in the gold medal match.

'My Goal is Gold for India'

In an interview, Sakshi stated her goal is to transform her assured medal into gold. She emphasized the importance of remaining calm and performing her best in the upcoming bout, dedicating her success to India, her family, coaches, and supporters.

"The colour needs to change, but reaching this milestone was crucial. With this achievement, the pressure is slightly reduced. Now, I am focused on winning a gold medal for India. I will concentrate on staying composed and playing my game to the fullest," she remarked.

"I want to dedicate my medal to all of India, who have supported me on this journey, as well as my family, coaches, and everyone else involved," she added.

Previously, Sakshi had triumphed over Botswana's Lethabo Modukanele to secure her quarterfinal position.
