Saharanpur Incident: Stray Dogs Attack Sheepfold, Causing Massive Loss
Stray Dogs Cause Havoc in Saharanpur
Saharanpur. In a shocking incident on Wednesday night, a pack of stray dogs wreaked havoc in the Kila neighborhood of Ambehata, leaving the entire area in a state of panic. The dogs, numbering in dozens, managed to leap over a five-foot wall and invaded a sheepfold, resulting in the death of 110 sheep. The affected shepherd has estimated the financial loss to exceed 15 lakh rupees.
Rain Leads to Tragedy as Owner Moves Away
Pritam, the owner and resident of Ambehata, shared that he was sleeping near the sheepfold as usual. Around 2 AM, heavy rain prompted him to move to a nearby room. Shortly after, he received alarming news that dogs had entered the sheepfold and were attacking the sheep.
Devastating Scene Unfolds
Upon arriving at the scene, Pritam was horrified to find a pile of dead sheep in one corner of the enclosure. The dogs had directly bitten the necks of 2025 sheep, leading to their deaths, while others succumbed to suffocation and extreme fear. Out of approximately 200 sheep in total, 110 lost their lives in this brutal attack.
Pregnant Sheep and Lambs Among the Victims
Tragically, among the deceased sheep, 30 were pregnant, significantly increasing their economic value. Additionally, over a dozen lambs were also killed by the dogs.
Illegal Slaughter Contributes to Dog Aggression
Pritam and local residents have indirectly attributed the increasing ferocity of the dogs to illegal slaughter practices. The shepherd noted that a pond located just 20 meters from the sheepfold is a dumping ground for animal remains by some individuals involved in illegal slaughter. This has led to packs of dogs gathering around the pond, making them more aggressive and dangerous.
Community Outrage and Demands for Action
By morning, a large crowd had gathered at the incident site. Residents expressed their deep anger, stating that the menace of stray dogs has escalated to a point where it is unsafe for people to walk outside at night. Packs of dogs roam the streets, posing a threat to anyone nearby. The community is demanding immediate action from authorities to halt illegal slaughter and find a permanent solution to the stray dog issue. There are also calls for financial assistance for the affected family.
