Sadanand Vasant Date's Upcoming Appointment
Sadanand Vasant Date is expected to be appointed as the next Director General of Police (DGP) in Maharashtra. The central government has decided to relieve him from his position as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and return him to his original department in Maharashtra.
The appointment committee of the cabinet has approved this decision based on a proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs. An official order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday.
Official Notification and Communication
According to the notification, the cabinet's appointment committee has sanctioned the proposal to transfer Sadanand Vasant Date, an IPS officer from the 1990 batch, back to his original cadre with immediate effect. This decision has been communicated to the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the Maharashtra government.
Who is Sadanand Vasant Date?
Sadanand Vasant Date is an IPS officer from the Maharashtra cadre, belonging to the 1990 batch. He is notably recognized for his actions during the 26/11 terrorist attacks, where he played a crucial role in saving the lives of hospital staff and patients while confronting terrorists Ajmal Kasab and Abu Ismail at the Cama Hospital.
Before joining the NIA, Date served as the head of Maharashtra's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), where he was instrumental in various anti-terror operations. Over the years, he has held several senior positions within the state police, including Commissioner of Police for Mira Bhayander-Vasai-Virar, Joint Commissioner of Law and Order, and Joint Commissioner of the Crime Branch in Mumbai.
His career also includes two tenures as Deputy Inspector General at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and a role as Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). In recognition of his bravery during the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, Date was awarded the President's Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG).
