Pilot Questions Government's Focus on Education
AICC General Secretary Sachin Pilot expressed criticism towards the Rajasthan government on Saturday. He raised concerns regarding the proposal to establish Marathi language study centers in the state's universities, arguing that such initiatives divert attention from critical issues in the education sector. Speaking to reporters in Jaipur, Pilot questioned the government's priorities and criticized the performance of the education minister. He remarked on the minister's approach, suggesting that it has been marked by vindictiveness in transfers and postings, targeting individuals and relocating them out of their districts.
He further stated that the government is shifting focus from essential improvements in education and infrastructure to less significant matters. He emphasized the need for quality education for children, asserting that the government has failed in areas such as education, healthcare, and law enforcement. These comments came after the announcement by Governor and Chancellor Haribhau Bagde regarding the initiation of the process to establish 'Classical Marathi Language Study Centers' in Rajasthan's universities. The governor's secretariat has sent letters to all universities in the state concerning the establishment of these centers.
In June, Maharashtra's Education Minister Dada Bhuse announced that Marathi would be a mandatory subject for students from grades 1 to 10 in all schools across the state. He warned of strict action against institutions that violate this directive, reiterating the government's commitment to promoting Marathi and the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Bhuse also mentioned that the state government has issued orders for the compulsory teaching of Marathi in all affiliated schools.
