Sachin Pilot Advocates for Transparent Anti-Maoist Operations in Chhattisgarh

Congress leader Sachin Pilot has called for transparency in the ongoing anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh, urging that these efforts should not be influenced by politics. His comments come in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's announcement that operations will continue during the monsoon season, a time typically marked by a pause due to adverse weather conditions. Pilot emphasized the importance of accountability and effective action in addressing internal security concerns. The central government aims to eliminate Maoism by March 2026, with significant casualties reported among suspected Maoists in recent years. However, families of the deceased contest claims made by authorities regarding the identities of those killed.

Pilot Calls for Non-Politicized Security Measures

On Monday, Congress leader Sachin Pilot emphasized the importance of conducting security operations against Maoists in a transparent manner, urging that these efforts should remain free from political influence.

While addressing the media in Chhattisgarh, where he oversees the party's operations, Pilot responded to comments made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Shah had announced on Sunday that anti-Maoist operations would persist throughout the monsoon season, a time when such activities are typically paused due to challenging weather conditions in dense forest areas.

Pilot asserted that any actions taken against Maoists must be effective and devoid of political bias, stating, “This is a matter of internal security.”

He further remarked that decisions should be made after thorough consideration, emphasizing the need for accountability in the actions taken, rather than relying solely on speeches.

The central government has committed to eradicating Maoism by March 31, 2026, a goal reiterated by Shah.

Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, reported that over 400 suspected Maoists were killed in the Bastar region during the 2024-2025 period.

According to police reports, 186 suspected Maoists lost their lives in confrontations with security forces in the Bastar area in 2025.

In the previous year, security forces were involved in the deaths of 217 suspected Maoists across Chhattisgarh.

Reports indicate that while many of those killed in Bastar were labeled as reward-carrying Maoists by authorities, families of the deceased contest these claims, asserting that many were civilians.
