Ruturaj Gaikwad's Reaction to CSK's Defeat

Ruturaj Gaikwad: In the IPL 2026 match last night, Chennai Super Kings faced off against Royal Challengers Bangalore, where the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni led to a disappointing 43-run defeat for CSK. Following this third consecutive loss, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his frustration.

Gaikwad attributed the defeat not only to the performance of the top-order batsmen but also to poor fielding. He also praised Tim David's performance and discussed Dhoni's anticipated return.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Takes Responsibility for the Loss

Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged that he and Sanju Samson were responsible for the loss against RCB. He believes that had the top-order batsmen scored runs, the outcome might have been different.

“Honestly, I was surprised. Sarfaraz, Prashant Veer, Jamie Overton, and to some extent Shivam Dubey fought valiantly. I feel if I had contributed more from the top order, we might have achieved the target, so I take full responsibility for today’s loss.”

Fielding Errors Contributed to the Defeat

CSK had an early opportunity to dismiss Virat Kohli in the first over, which they missed, leading to several fielding errors throughout the match. Gaikwad pointed out that these mistakes were pivotal in their defeat.

“As you rightly said, if we had capitalized on the early chance to dismiss Virat Kohli, we might have gained momentum. I believe until the 13th or 14th over, the match was in our hands, and that’s when the momentum shifted completely.”

Hope for Dhoni's Return

Regarding Mahendra Singh Dhoni's return, Ruturaj Gaikwad mentioned,

“He is gradually getting back into form. We all hope he returns soon. He is eager to play, but it takes some time.”
