Russia Denounces US-Israel Strikes on Iran as Unprovoked Aggression
Moscow's Strong Reaction to Joint Military Action
Moscow: On Saturday, Russia expressed strong condemnation of the coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran, labeling them as an 'unprovoked' act of aggression against a sovereign nation, which breaches international law. The Russian Foreign Ministry called for an urgent return to diplomatic discussions.
The ministry characterized the attacks on Iranian soil as a 'pre-planned' act of hostility against a UN member state. This military action followed a period of escalating tensions, with US President Donald Trump intensifying pressure on Tehran to negotiate a new nuclear agreement.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry remarked, 'The scale and nature of the military, political, and propaganda preparations preceding this reckless move, including the deployment of a large US military force to the region, leave no doubt that this was a pre-planned and unprovoked act of armed aggression against a sovereign and independent UN member state, in violation of the fundamental principles and norms of international law.'
The ministry criticized the attacks as being conducted under the pretense of renewed negotiations.
Despite Israel's indications to Russia that it does not seek military conflict with Iran, the strikes proceeded, according to the Foreign Ministry's statement.
'Washington and Tel Aviv have once again embarked on a dangerous adventure that is rapidly bringing the region closer to a humanitarian, economic, and potentially radiological disaster,' the statement warned.
'The aggressors' intentions are clear and have been declared quite openly: to dismantle the constitutional order and eliminate the leadership of a state that has resisted the dictates of force and hegemony,' the ministry added, asserting that the responsibility for any adverse outcomes rests solely with them.
Moscow urged the global community, including the UN and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to provide an immediate and impartial evaluation of these reckless actions that threaten peace, stability, and security in West Asia.
The ministry also expressed deep concern over the 'serial nature of destabilizing attacks' by the US Administration in recent months, which undermine the international legal framework governing world order, including principles of non-interference, the renunciation of force, and peaceful dispute resolution.
It reiterated that Washington and Tel Aviv have 'once again embarked on a dangerous adventure that is rapidly bringing the region closer to a humanitarian, economic, and, quite possibly, radiological catastrophe.'
'The aggressors' intentions are clear and have been declared quite openly: to destroy the constitutional order and eliminate the leadership of an undesirable state that has refused to submit to the dictates of force and hegemony,' the statement concluded, warning of severe repercussions for the global non-proliferation regime, which is fundamentally anchored in the NPT.
Moscow called for an immediate return to political and diplomatic solutions, reaffirming its readiness to assist in finding peaceful resolutions grounded in international law, mutual respect, and a balance of interests.
