Key Retentions for RCB
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has confirmed the retention of four prominent players ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 Mega Auction. Smriti Mandhana, who captained RCB to victory in WPL 2024, is retained as captain for Rs 3.5 crore. Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, whose performance continues to impress, has also re-signed with the team for Rs 2.75 crore.
Coach's Insights on Player Retentions
Malolan Rangarajan, the Head Coach of RCB, expressed his thoughts on the retentions, stating, "Smriti Mandhana is our first retention for the upcoming season. She brings a left-handed opening style and aggressive batting that aligns with our gameplay. Additionally, her calm demeanor and tactical acumen make her an ideal leader, especially since she led us to our first title."
Ellyse Perry, recognized as one of the sport's all-time greats, will continue with RCB for Rs 2 crore. Shreyanka Patil, who previously won the Purple Cap in WPL 2024 but missed the last season due to injury, is retained for Rs 60 lakh.
Financial Overview and Auction Strategy
The total expenditure for these four retentions amounts to Rs 8.85 crore, leaving RCB with Rs 6.15 crore available for the mega auction. They also hold one 'Right To Match' card to potentially bring back an uncapped player.
Rangarajan further elaborated on Shreyanka Patil's retention, highlighting her exceptional skills as an off-spinner and her potential to contribute significantly to the team. He noted, "Retaining her was a thoughtful decision, considering her recent absence from play. We believe she can be a crucial part of our strategy moving forward."
