Rohit Sharma's Enthusiasm for T20 World Cup Expansion

Rohit Sharma, the former captain of India, expressed his excitement regarding the addition of new teams in the upcoming 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He highlighted that the inclusion of 20 teams signifies the sport's rapid global growth.

"It's quite impressive to see Italy participating; it reflects the expanding nature of cricket. We aspire for our sport to flourish and welcome the emergence of new teams. Having 20 teams is a clear indication of growth," Rohit stated during the announcement event for the T20 World Cup schedule.

"I hope to see even more teams from regions like Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Japan in the future. I have many friends in Japan who play competitive cricket and are eager to face off against top teams. The sport has made significant strides in the last few years, and I believe it will continue to improve," he added.

The Importance of Competitive Spirit

Discussing India's group for the tournament, Rohit emphasized that every team should be taken seriously. "All teams are competitive now. You can't enter a tournament assuming it's an easy path anymore, especially with so many teams engaging in competitive matches throughout the year. You must maintain your focus from the very first ball; there's no room for complacency," he remarked.

"Teams are closely observing each other, analyzing strengths and weaknesses, which leads to thorough preparation," he noted.
