Rohit Sharma, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, who led India to victory in the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup, has been appointed as the tournament ambassador for the upcoming 2026 edition, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

ICC Chair Jay Shah expressed his excitement on social media, stating, "It’s my honor to announce that @ImRo45 is the tournament ambassador for the upcoming @T20WorldCup in India & Sri Lanka. There can be no better representative for the event than the winning captain of the 2024 T20 World Cup, and a player who has participated in all nine editions so far."


Rohit's Remarkable T20I Statistics

In his T20 International career, Rohit Sharma has amassed 4,231 runs, maintaining an average of 32.01 and an impressive strike rate of 140.89.


Champion of Two T20 World Cups

Rohit is among the select few players who have been part of two victorious Men's T20 World Cup teams. His first triumph was in the inaugural tournament in 2007, where he made a remarkable debut, scoring 88 runs without being dismissed, including vital contributions of 50* against South Africa and 30* in the final against Pakistan.


His second victory came in 2024, where he captained India to the title, scoring 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70. Notable performances included 92 runs off 41 balls against Australia and 57 runs off 39 balls in the semi-final against England.


Following India's victory in 2024, which ended an 11-year wait for an ICC trophy, Rohit announced his retirement from T20 cricket.
