Rohit Sharma's Remarkable Recognition

Rohit Sharma, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, expressed his joy on receiving the Padma Shri award, stating, "23rd June brings all kinds of magic." This date holds special significance for him as it marks both his debut for India and this prestigious honor, occurring 19 years apart.


The Padma Shri was awarded to Rohit in acknowledgment of his exceptional contributions to Indian cricket over the years. The ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, presided over by President Droupadi Murmu.


A Historic Debut

Rohit made his international debut on June 23, 2007, in an ODI match against Ireland, where he did not bat, but India won by nine wickets using the D/L method. Following the award ceremony, he shared a photo of himself with the award on social media, reflecting on his journey: "23rd June brings all kinds of magic. 19 years ago, it began with an India cap. Today, another proud chapter is added to the story."


Rohit Sharma's Cricketing Achievements

ODI Records


Rohit Sharma is celebrated as one of the most successful ODI players, having scored 11,720 runs in 285 matches, with an impressive average of 48.83 and a strike rate of 92.97. He holds multiple world records, including the highest individual score in ODIs at 264 and the unique achievement of scoring three double centuries.


Under his captaincy, the Indian men's cricket team secured the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados and the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.


Test Career


Rohit debuted in Test cricket in 2013 and has played 67 matches, accumulating 4,301 runs. His Test career features 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries, with a top score of 212 against South Africa in 2019.


T20I Achievements


Making his T20 debut in 2007, Rohit has scored 4,231 runs in 159 matches, becoming the leading scorer in T20Is in 2024. He has won two T20 World Cups: the first in 2007 as a player and the second in 2024 as captain. In 2024, he also became the first male cricketer to play over 150 T20Is, although he announced his retirement from this format following India's T20 World Cup victory.


Padma Awards 2026 Ceremony Highlights

The Padma Awards 2026 ceremony, held on June 23, saw President Droupadi Murmu presenting a total of 65 awards, which included two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan, and 56 Padma Shri awards.


Earlier, on May 26, the first Civil Investiture Ceremony for the Padma Awards 2026 took place, during which 66 awards were conferred.
