Rohit and Virat's Mission for the 2027 World Cup

As India prepares for their second ODI against New Zealand in Rajkot on Tuesday, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak shared insights into the preparations led by senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He highlighted their discussions with head coach Gautam Gambhir regarding match strategies and the team's roadmap leading up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

Focus on 'Ro-Ko'

With Team India on its 'Mission 2027', attention is drawn to Rohit and Virat, affectionately known as 'Ro-Ko'. Their appearances in ODIs are celebrated events for the team, especially given the limited number of ODIs scheduled, raising questions about their future as both players are in their late 30s.

Coach Praises Ro-Ko's Professionalism

"Both players are highly experienced and dedicated. They meticulously plan their practice sessions at various venues and often arrive a few days early to prepare. Their commitment to the Indian team's success is evident, and they are not just focused on their batting but also on fitness and overall strategy," Kotak remarked.

"They frequently consult with Gautam about upcoming ODIs and share their insights. Their ongoing discussions yield many positive outcomes for the team," he added.

Outstanding Performance Amidst Criticism

Despite facing significant scrutiny, 'Ro-Ko' has delivered remarkable performances. Last year, they were India's leading run-scorers in ODIs, with Virat accumulating 651 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 65.10, including three centuries and four fifties, with a top score of 135. Rohit closely followed with 650 runs in 14 innings, averaging 50.00, with two centuries and four fifties, and a best score of 121*.

In their first ODIs of the current year, Rohit and Virat scored 26 and 93 runs, respectively, in a challenging chase of 301 runs. Prior to this match, they participated in a couple of Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, where Virat scored 131 and 77 for Delhi, while Rohit made 155* in one match, followed by a duck in another.
