Rising Star Krish Sharma: Jharkhand's Cricketing Hope
A Promising Young Talent
Krish Sharma, a 17-year-old cricketer from Dimmna Basti East in Jamshedpur, is making waves in India's age-group cricket scene. Known for his left-handed batting style, he has consistently showcased his skills in junior tournaments, demonstrating a calm demeanor and the ability to stabilize innings under pressure. In addition to his batting prowess, Krish is also an off-spin bowler and a skilled fielder, making him a well-rounded player for the future.
A Journey of Dreams
In an interview in Gurugram, Krish reflected on his cricketing journey, describing it as a dream come true while managing both academics and sports. "This journey has been incredible. I started playing cricket at the age of 10, and by 13, I was competing in U-14 tournaments, followed by U-16 and U-19 the next year," he shared.
Support from JSCA
Krish expressed gratitude towards the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) for its role in developing young cricketers. He noted, "The JSCA supports players from the grassroots level, allowing them ample time to prepare. Unlike other boards, our state board provides extensive training, which has significantly contributed to our development."
Impressive Domestic Records
His recent performances in domestic age-group competitions highlight his rising profile. In the 2024-25 Cooch Behar Trophy, he scored 300 runs in six innings, including a notable unbeaten 70. Additionally, he amassed 130 runs in three innings during the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, with a top score of 74. His Under-16 statistics are equally remarkable, with 425 runs in the Vijay Merchant Trophy and 400 runs in five inter-district Under-19 matches, featuring an unbeaten 175.
Inspired by Peers
Krish acknowledged the influence of fellow cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has had a standout IPL 2026 season. "Sooryavanshi is an exceptional talent. While we can't replicate his style, he sets a high standard for us, much like Sachin Tendulkar did in his time. We strive to meet those benchmarks," he stated.
Aiming for the Blue Jersey
Despite his rapid ascent in junior cricket, Krish's ultimate aspiration remains clear: to represent India at the highest level. "Wearing the Blue Jersey for India is my only goal," he emphasized. He also mentioned how the success of Jharkhand players like Ishan Kishan motivates him, saying, "If they can achieve it, so can I. We share similar backgrounds, and their success inspires us to believe in our potential."
Idolizing Cricket Legends
Krish revealed that his cricketing idols are MS Dhoni and Kumar Sangakkara. He admires Sangakkara's patience and Dhoni's strategic approach to finishing matches, stating, "Both legends have qualities I aspire to emulate in my game."
Passion for Test Cricket
For Krish, the pinnacle of cricket lies in Test matches. He remarked, "Test cricket is the true essence of the game. While white-ball formats are exciting, the endurance required for Test cricket showcases a player's passion. That's why I believe Test cricket is the best format."
