Escalating Drug Addiction in Haryana

On Saturday, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala highlighted the alarming rise of drug addiction in Haryana, noting a significant increase in fatalities linked to substance abuse. He reported that over the past six months, more than 20 young individuals in Fatehabad district alone have succumbed to drug overdoses.

Surjewala took to social media platform 'X' to express his concerns, stating, “Thousands of youths have sought treatment at de-addiction centers, but due to a lack of adequate resources, many could not be admitted.”

He further warned that the use of injectable drugs can lead to blocked veins, organ damage, and the spread of severe diseases such as HIV and hepatitis. The most vulnerable group, he noted, are children aged 15 to 25, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds attending government schools.

Surjewala emphasized that young people are spending between 2,500 to 3,000 rupees daily on drugs, often resorting to theft and crime to fund their addiction.

He concluded by stating, “The drug epidemic and the accompanying crime are devastating the youth of Haryana, yet the BJP government remains preoccupied with deceit and exploitation, only focused on reaping the benefits of power.”
