Lucknow Super Giants' Disappointing Performance

In the ongoing IPL 2026 season, the Lucknow Super Giants, led by Rishabh Pant, have had a dismal performance. Out of the seven matches played, the team has managed to secure victory in only two, while suffering defeats in five. As a result, the Super Giants are now on the verge of being eliminated from playoff contention.

Justin Langer Expresses Disappointment

Justin Langer, the head coach of LSG, has expressed his disappointment regarding the team's poor performance, particularly highlighting Rishabh Pant's struggles. The 27 crore player has not been able to deliver as expected, raising concerns about his form.

Justin Langer Comments on Rishabh Pant's Struggles

During the IPL 2025 mega auction, Lucknow Super Giants acquired Rishabh Pant for a staggering 27 crore. However, his performance throughout the season was underwhelming, with only two matches where he scored a century and a half-century. This season, Pant has only managed to accumulate 147 runs, averaging a mere 21.

Langer remarked on Pant's performance, stating,

“We all know that much of his game relies on instinct. He bats at a crucial number three position and aims to play aggressively. He wants to replicate the performance he had against Punjab. However, his inability to do so has left us disappointed, and he is equally frustrated. He still wishes to play aggressive shots. We have plenty of options, and the team is rich in Indian talent, with only three foreign players on the field.”

Rishabh Pant's Captaincy Under Scrutiny

Rishabh Pant's struggles extend beyond his individual performance; his captaincy has also come under scrutiny. In IPL 2025, under his leadership, LSG won only six out of fourteen matches, resulting in their failure to qualify for the playoffs.

This season has seen a continuation of his poor performance and captaincy, with LSG winning just two out of seven matches, placing them ninth in the IPL 2026 points table.
